North America as a precursor of changes in Western European food-purchasing patterns

The five main factors, when discussing the food market, are population levels and growth, income levels, the current and predicted prices of food products, demographic shifts and changes in personal tastes.

It should be noted that consumer trends observed in one region can be replicated in others. For example, trends (with regards to food products) in Western Europe are quite similar to those in North America, although the trends in America tend to start earlier. Hence, food expenditure and tastes in food are predicted to come together, gradually.
